Children and Families
As an OT I seek to enhance a child’s development both in educational settings and home environments. Intervention at the right stage in a child’s journey helps them develop the foundation skills that form the building blocks for learning in later years.
I can support children, families, and educational staff through:
Specialist assessments such as:
- Advice towards Education Health Care Plans (EHCP)
- Handwriting assessments
- Sensory motor assessments
- Co-ordination assessments
- Environmental assessments
- Advice towards Education Health Care Plans (EHCP)
- Housing Assessments to support DFG applications







Training
- Training sessions for support staff, teachers, teaching assistant and student teachers.
- Parent / support worker training sessions.
Interventions in school or at home such as:





- Sensory processing.
- Specialist intervention for children with physical difficulties associated with cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, spina bifida, etc.
- Promoting a child’s development in specific areas such as handwriting, co-ordination, visual perception, fine motor skills etc.
- Promoting independence in personal care, daily living, leisure pursuits and community activities.
- Individual sessions focussing on set individualised goals.
- Specialist equipment at home or in the school setting.
- Small group sessions with children who have similar difficulties working on set goals.
- Working within Nursery, Reception, KS1 and KS2 classes alongside the staff in order to promote the underlying skills which are essential as children progress through the school environment.
- Contribution towards setting Individual Education Plan targets.
This is not an exhaustive list and discussions are welcome as to how OT can best support the children in question.
Adults
As an OT I can support adults of any age who have difficulties participating in their daily activities and roles. It is these daily activities, or occupations, that enable people to live independently, with a sense of purpose and meaning.
Through assessment detailed knowledge is gained of the client, the effects of their condition or illness on their functioning and the impact on their participation and independence.

I work with people who have conditions such as:
- Neurological conditions
- Cerebral Palsy or other physical disabilities
- Learning disabilities
- Medical conditions such as COPD
- Mobility difficulties associated with aging
- Orthopaedic injuries/planned surgery
- Brain injury
- Dementia
- Acquired disabilities following an accident.







I aim to support people to reach their goals and promote independence through:
- Specialist environmental assessments and recommendations.
- Specialist equipment assessments and recommendations.
- Promoting independence in daily living, vocational, leisure and community activities.
- Rehabilitation to regain function.
- Hand splinting.
Case Managers


As an OT I work closely with Case Managers in order to provide detailed assessments and recommendations to assist with formulating a rehabilitation programme for clients who have experienced an injury. I can provide the following:
- Detailed assessment of need.
- Recommendations for longer term intervention plan.
- Environmental assessments , adaptations and recommendations.
- Specialist equipment assessment and recommendations.
- Specialist intervention with client centred SMART goals.
- Regular progress reporting.
I work with children and adults who are experiencing ongoing difficulties associated with an acquired injury. These can be physical difficulties, learning difficulties or cognitive processing difficulties. Occupational Therapy can support with: –
- Ongoing therapy intervention focussing on rehabilitation.
- Equipment assessment, provision and reviews.
- Housing adaptations
- Promoting independence in daily activities.
- Participation in community and leisure activities.
- Addressing vocational issues.
